Downtown San Diego Quiet Zone Update
Downtown is on it’s way to being quieter!!! The Downtown San Diego Quiet Zone is making progress and almost ready to move to the next phase of the project.
On Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 6:00am-1:00pm, safety tests will be conducted to ensure newly installed equipment functions properly. This test, is the first of seven test that will certify equipment functions. Once the equipment is certified, they will be ready to begin installing the new vehicular and pedestrian gates. The gate installation is expected to begin in August 2011.
Plans call for all safety enhancements, including gates, medians, traffic signals, and warning lights to be operational by Spring 2012.
Once all of the work is completed (Spring 2012), the train horns will no longer be sounded (except in an emergency) between the Laurel Street rail crossing to Petco Park.
